Carter's Energy Reform Letter

Dear Editor,

I think that the idea of Carter's Energy Reform is NOT our problem and should be solved through the government. Now i do not want to sound like one of those stubborn people who refuse nothing is their fault and i do think that we need to work together to fix issues but this is different. It is not our fault that the government had to invest all of their oil shares within foreign countries and we should not have to totally change our lifestyles for that mistake. I do think that we should be reasonable and make some changes to help our government but not too much. Using less air conditioning is a reasonable expectation but to ask to drive less is a more difficult task to revise; some people just need to have to drive a lot to work or other necessary places. Reducing "gas-guzzling" cars is also a fairly reasonable expectation as well but you cannot expect people in America to buy brand new efficient cars. I feel as if i am not the only person with this vies and that the government should look at all of the options first.

Protest within Music

Where have all the Flowers Gone
by Peter, Paul and Mary
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

ANALYSIS: This song was written in 1956 and recorded, it was right around the time
the whole counterculture movement. It was created by Seeger to send a message that
all the violence isn't needed and peace is needed to grow. He was referring to
violent public protest, war and other malicious events that occurred around that
time.He discusses all the deaths of the soldiers and if it was really needed
to kill that many people and if there was a point. He often repeats, "When will we
ever learn?" just showing that he is unsure when all the madness will stop. Also he
often repeats lines just trying to prove a point; that when everyone realizes
violence needs to stop the better off everyone will be when peace can begin.
I chose this song because it is protesting violence something that we have been
talking about in class. Also because it is right around the time period as well so
could possibly referring to the war.

Women Vs. Men in 2010

In this day and age the topic of men and women being equal is a touchy topic. Even as touchy as, why did i just list the man in front of the woman? and, am i sexist? Being a woman i should be able to tell you an exact inside look of what the equalness is like. But unfortunatly i cannot; i am not exactly sure whether or not men and women are equal. I think that men and women can have equal oppurtunities, i say this because we have already have a woman run for president, which is an amazing improvment since the 1900's. I do believe that there could still be more improvments in certain areas because there are still a lot of people who believe that women are inferior to men. But i also believe that women are strong enough to prove to those sexist people that they are equal. I also think that if we haven't made enough improvments yet; then there are way more to come.

JFK Reflection

1. a.) First thing i didn't know about was that he wasn't only well known in the USA the whole world respected him. There was a boat from a tribe in Africa(?) thanking him for everything he has done for them. Also the exhibit with the piece of wall from Asia.
b.) Secondly i was unaware of all the things he did with the Special Olympics. There were multiple exhibits dedicated to him for his help with supporting the Special Olympics.
c.) Lastly, was the importance that Jackie Kennedy, his wife, had while he was in office. There were many exhibits that were in honor of her. I do believe two of her outfits were modeled as well that were stunning. Also jewerly that she had recieved from Asia and Europe.

2. I deffinitly enjoyed the part that we were allowed to walk around. The movies were nice as well (if my allergies were not acting up). The first classroom part was dragged on a little too long and most of the stuff she talked about we already knew. I was expecting it to be bigger too! But overall i enjoyed the field trip.

3. Um! deffinitly no classroom thingy at the begining! But like i said overall it was pretty good! I just wished there was a little more on the asassination and conspiracy thoery. I understand they wanted to celebrate his life and accomplishments but i think everyone was really looking foward to hear about that... it's an interesting topic.

4. John F. Kennedy was an outstanding president in my opinion. But i also believe that he could have done more; i also believe that there are presidents who have done just as much as him. Kennedy acomplished a lot in his lifetime and left a great legacy. In my opinion i would have like to have seen more of "civil rights activist", there was alot that could have been improved but it just wasn't; even with the little time that he did have in the White House. But his work and support with the Special Olympics was philanthropical; i never relized how much good he actually did for them. Kennedy's work was outstanding but i do believe that there are other presidents with grave accomplishments like him.

The "Butter Battle"!

In the story the "Butter Battle" i would conclude the if i was the writer by having the two sides come to a conclusion. I would have the Zooks and the Yooks come to an agreement. Realize that no matter what they always will come back with similar weapons so they might as well come to an agreement to live in peace. I would want the readers to realize that bombing each other with "nuclear bombs" is not the answers. I would have them sign a treaty refraining from the use of that tiny, little bomb. The agreement would save all the little Zooks and Yooks and allow them to live in peace. If a treaty is not set then a nuclear war would be engaged and all Zooks and Yooks will be in trouble and eventually they had to come out of the bomb shelters.Triple_Sling_Jigger.jpg

Depression 2009

1. Personally I cannot say that I think that situation will never happened because that is what everyone said in the 1920's and then it did happen. Do i think that it could happen very soon? I doubt it but you never know. From what i know the economy now is not that stable so anything could happen. Right now i feel comfortable with the people's hands that the country is in so I am not obsessing over it it or extremely worried. But yes, it has crossed my mind once or twice but i always hope for the better. Honestly, whose mind has that concept not crossed.
2. My mother would probably loose her job because she is a waitress at a restaurant. But i am not sure if my dad would automatically loose his job because he is a electrician and the people who still need electricity would need my father also. He also is part of a union so it is harder for him to loose his job. If my parents did both not work we would most likely have to sacrifice everything because my family runs on a lot of materialistic things. We would most likely have to sell the cars, computers, televisions, etc.
3. The way he describes it is alot less than the depression in the 1930's. I do agree with him, i do believe that if there was a depression in 2009 it would be a lot less severe than  the one in the 1930's.

Simpson Espisode (Prohibition)

Part A. I think that the Simpson's episode portraying the Prohibition era in the 1920's had fictional and non fictional parts in it. The main parts of Prohibition were in the episode like speakeasies, gangsters trying to sell the beer and fighting and destruction the drinking caused. But things that were incorrect were when the women wanted the Prohibition more than the government, all crime disappearing with the alcohol, transporting beer through bowling balls, 200 year old law and bars being disguised as pet shops. I do believe that overall that era of the 1920's were portrayed well and i think that the accuracies do overweigh the inaccuracies.  When the alcohol was prohibited and everyone was trying to figure out ways to sneak it in and the F.B.I agent was brought was the part that i saw being the most accurate. I did enjoy the episode and found it very funny.

Part B. If i wanted to make this completely accurate i would first take out all the aspects that made it untrue. For example, i would take out the women wanted the Prohibition more than the government, all crime disappearing with the alcohol, transporting beer through bowling balls, 200 year old law and bars being disguised as pet shops. Then i would now add in scenes that would make the episode appear more accurate like maybe adding the formation of the F.B.I. instead of adding only one guy. Also maybe forming more speakeasies in the town like the way it happened in history. Finally i would add a scene where bootleggers came into the speakeasies and pulled alcohol out of their bootlegs in a flask. But, overall i would not change the whole episode because i believe that it was portrayed pretty well; i would only take things out or add them in.
